I was reading the Bible this morning when this phrase caught my attention...
Jehovah-Nissi: The Lord is our Banner.
I'm not gonna lie, this is a legit name when you think about the implications.
It's a name that says: "This God we serve is so awesome - so powerful - so amazing...the greatness of who He is literally becomes our rallying point. We become unified under Him."
Imagine if we as Christians lived life like that?
Seeing God's greatness for what it is.
Leaving our bickering and quarreling aside.
Rallying as one under the God who adopted and redeemed us.
Imagine the unity that we would experience.
Imagine the impact that we could have on the world.
I don't know about you, but that excites me!
We literally serve a God who is so awesome -
His greatness has the ability to stop our bickering in its tracks.
We literally serve a God who is so generous -
His name becomes our identity.
We literally serve a God who is so trustworthy and strong -
His presence in and of itself brings us confidence.
There's a certain level of awe when you take it in: The Lord is our Banner.
It reminds us that when God brought us into His family, it was utterly life changing.
We are no longer alone.
We are no longer wandering without purpose.
We have a new identity and mission.
Who we are and what we do is completely dominated by and motivated by who our God is.
The strength and unity that comes from that is a game-changer.
His greatness energizes us in this life - no matter what hits us.
Let's not forget: The Lord is our Banner.
May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. - Romans 15:5-6
